Ron MacDonell has been involved in Dirt Track racing one way or another since the mid eighties. He is actually a second generation racer. His Father, Ron MacDonell Senior was involved in racing at the old Speedway Park in Edmonton. There started the connection. Ron lost his Dad tragically when he was a just 11 years old. Ron as a teenager actually grew up away from racing being a top athlete. High School and College Basketball, Major Men’s Fastball, Junior Hockey and his 2nd favorite sport (next to racing) Football. It all started so innocently, one day his brother Al approached him to co-own a stock car and race it out at the old Calmar Speedway. Well the rest is history. A few “Mac Attack” stock cars later, they worked very hard on sponsorship and managed to purchase their first 360 sprint car operation. During the last year of operations (1990) at Calmar Raceway, Ron, along with well known racer and promoter Dan Saunders co-promoted the track which was slated for reclamation after that season. Ron has also promoted several unique events, such as the Can-Am Challenge, Platinum Cup and the NSA Sprint car races in Great Falls, Lethbridge and Edmonton. Fast-forward and Ron has his son Sean MacDonell behind the wheel of a 360 sprint car. They have toured together throughout the Pacific Northwest and continue to race locally and South of the border.

Ron is very passionate about dirt track racing and wants to grow the sport back to where it was during the early years at Castrol. He feels with just a little focus, dedication, and heart we can get there. One lap at a time.....
